What to expect when visiting

What about handicap accessibility? You will see on the church map that the majority of handicap parking is available at the back of the church, outside Door 4. This is also the entrance nearest the elevator, located just inside the door. The elevator delivers you to a sanctuary entrance just around the corner, where you can pick up a bulletin (large print or regular), much like an agenda or outline, for the worship service. Toward the center of the sanctuary, space has been carved out from two pews for wheelchairs. A second handicap parking area is across from Door 2 in the Hive parking lot. Door 2 also has a convenient drop off area. We have a T-coil-compatible hearing loop system available in the sanctuary. Feel free to ask any usher for assistance with this.

I am supposed to attend a meeting or event at JFPC - where do I go?Please see our church maps. Here are our recommendations for how to get to some common places: To get to the offices, enter door 2 and take a left down the long hallway. To get to the Westminster Room, enter door 2 and immediately turn left. To get to Fellowship Hall, enter door 4 and take a left down the stairs/elevator. To get to the Dining Room or Activity Room, enter door 4 and take a left down the stairs/elevator then travel through the Fellowship Hall. To get to the choir room or handbells room, enter door 4 and take either the stairs or elevator up. Once out of the elevator, turn right and go down the long hallway.

What should I wear to worship? You'll find a variety of outfits from suit and tie to jeans and hoodies. We encourage everyone to wear what they are comfortable in, which looks different from person to person!
-
Where do my kids go during services?Kids of all ages are encouraged to join us for worship in the Sanctuary in the two KiDS Worship Center spots located against the stained glass windows. There are activities for the kids to take part in during the services. Keeping young kids in the worship service allows them to actively participate in the prayers of the people, the Lord’s prayer, the offering, and communion. Repetition - holy order - and community are critical to young kids’ spiritual formation.

Will I have to identify myself or be called out?Don't worry, we do not ask new faces to stand up and introduce themselves! We do not want you to be uncomfortable and do not expect you to do anything that makes you uncomfortable. We are made up of introverts, extroverts, ambiverts, and everything in between!

What's worship like? Our worship style is very traditional and follows a prescribed ritual outline of worship each week. Even though we adhere to a formal worship style, we are also a very informal community. Wear what you are comfortable in. Seriously, suits or shorts, skirts, or sweats. Bring your coffee, your kids, grandkids, and even your pet. Music often moves our hearts in ways beyond words. Using traditional hymns, often led by the chancel choir and pipe organ, music connects our communal responses and readings throughout the worship service. The service is rich with featured guest instrumentalists, bell choir, and occasionally our kids’ choir. Kids are invited to stay in the Sanctuary to worship with the adults in their own KiDS Worship Center. The service always includes a children’s message delivered by a congregational or staff member. Kids are invited but not required to be involved in this message on the steps. Holy Communion is served on the first Sunday of the month and is completely optional. Gluten free bread is provided in sealed cups. Sunday worship services typically last an hour, and we gather in the Westminster Room for a snack afterwards.

How do I join the choir or handbells? We are happy to have new voices and musicians join us! Experience is not required. Choir rehearsals are typically on Thursdays from 6:30pm-7:30pm with handbells starting at 7:35pm. Both choir and handbells take a break during the summer and resume in the fall. Please contact music director Wendy Treacher ahead of time so that she can prepare music for you!

ParkingParking is located behind the building (see map). There is also an overflow parking lot located to the east behind The Hive building (these parking lots are connected and both owned by the church). There is a sidewalk connecting the overflow parking to door 2. Handicap parking spots are located outside door 4. The elevator is located just inside door 4. There are also handicap parking spaces along the driveway to The Hive, just outside door 2.

Am I expected to give money during worship? As our guest, we don’t expect any money from you. We have an offering time during worship, but we encourage you to let the opportunity to give pass you by. The offering is a way for the JFPC family to respond to God and join the mission of the church. If you’re new, we don’t expect you to give. If you hear us talking about a mission that speaks to you directly, please feel free to give as you are able, but our time of worship is a gift to you. If you do consider JFPC your church home, thank you for prayerfully considering a regular contribution. You can give by check or cash during Sunday worship, or you can choose to give anytime online.
